Slate Roofing in Hobart
City of Hobart's heritage FAQ says the Hobart Fitzroy Place precinct will include the residential streetscapes of Fitzroy Crescent and Fitzroy Place, and the Davey and Macquarie Street precinct will include Davey and Macquarie Streets. If your house is in a Heritage Precinct, planning approval is usually needed.

Slate Roofing around Hobart
The FAQ says: "The heritage precinct HOB-C6.2.3.4 Hobart Fitzroy Place will include the residential streetscapes of Fitzroy Crescent and Fitzroy Place, while the heritage precinct HOB-C6.2.3.5 Hobart Davey and Macquarie Street will include Davey and Macquarie Streets." The line is from City of Hobart's heritage FAQ, which describes the precincts as the draft Local Provisions Schedule draws them; whether that is what applies to a given property is for the City to say. It does not say that any particular house is inside the precinct or has a slate roof.
Most of central Hobart is outside those two precincts as the FAQ names them, so the first question is whether the property is inside one. Ask the City, and ask the provider what the quote assumes about the existing slates.

Permits and City of Hobart rules
Whether a roof job here needs planning approval is for City of Hobart to confirm: it says you will usually need approval for development of a heritage listed property or one in a Heritage Precinct, and that some maintenance is exempt.
